Renewing a prescription online in Portugal: who can and who cannot
When online prescription renewal (€19) is appropriate, clinical limits, foreign prescriptions, and what to prepare before the consultation.
Online prescription renewal in Portugal is indicated for stable long-term medication when there are no warning signs and no need for an immediate in-person examination. At Kliniqa this consultation lasts about 15 minutes and costs €19.
The doctor confirms current medication, dose, adherence, any adverse effects and the clinical context before issuing the electronic prescription. It is not automatic renewal: each request depends on an individual clinical assessment.
Do not use this consultation to start a new treatment or to reassess a complex plan (for example, starting weight management). In those cases, book the appropriate specialty. Medicines under special prescription / controlled substances also have tighter rules and may not be renewable in this flow.
Prescriptions issued in another country (Brazil, the United Kingdom, and so on) are not valid in Portuguese pharmacies. If you already take stable long-term medication abroad, the doctor may, after assessment, issue an equivalent Portuguese prescription when clinically appropriate.
Bring an up-to-date medication list (name and dose), allergies and, if you have them, recent tests or the previous pack/prescription. The electronic prescription is sent by email and accepted in Portuguese pharmacies on the national system.
