This consultation is to renew stable chronic medication that is not weight-loss treatment. To start or renew a GLP-1 agonist, book the weight-loss initial assessment (if you do not yet have Kliniqa follow-up) or the weight-loss follow-up (if you have already had the first assessment).

Stable chronic medication: hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, thyroid, anxiety, asthma and other established treatments. It does not include GLP-1 agonists, controlled-use drugs or substances requiring a special prescription.

Yes. The electronic prescription has legal validity throughout Portugal and is accepted at any pharmacy on the NHS system.

UK prescriptions cannot be dispensed at Portuguese pharmacies. The Portuguese electronic prescription is universal - it works at any pharmacy regardless of which doctor issued it.

GLP-1 agonists for weight loss (Wegovy, Ozempic, Mounjaro, Rybelsus, Saxenda) - those are only prescribed in the weight-loss initial assessment or follow-up. We also do not renew drugs subject to special prescription (RE) - strong opioids, some benzodiazepines in certain situations, Schedule I psychotropics under Decree-Law 15/93 - which require a paper (blue) prescription with in-person assessment. Drugs that have not yet been initiated need the appropriate initial specialty consultation.

Renewable prescriptions for chronic medication (antihypertensives, statins, antidiabetics, thyroid drugs) are valid for 6 months with several monthly dispensations allowed in that window. Non-renewable prescriptions (one-off use) are valid for 30 days. The doctor specifies the type at the time of issue.

Yes. SNS reimbursement depends on the active ingredient and the State-defined tier, not on which doctor prescribes - your Kliniqa prescription receives exactly the same reimbursement as one from your médico de família. For specific exemptions (chronic illness status) additional validation by the SNS GP may be required.
