Weight-loss medication without a consultation: what the law requires

In Portugal, prescription-only medicine for weight loss cannot be dispensed at the pharmacy without a prescription. The consultation is not an extra fee. It is the act that allows indication, contraindications and follow-up to be assessed.

Buying “without a prescription” on websites, in groups or on trips does not replace assessment. Without a doctor, no one confirms dose, interactions, pregnancy, previous pancreatitis, thyroid disease, or what to do when effects appear. The risk is not only that it “does not work”; it is becoming ill with no safety net.

A Portuguese pharmacy dispenses against a valid electronic prescription. If someone offers the same drug without a consultation, that is outside the legal circuit. Kliniqa cannot, and must not, bypass that rule.

In the weight-management consultation the doctor may conclude there is no indication. That is also a valid clinical result. Asking for a named brand does not change the duty to assess.

The correct path is simple: assessment, blood tests if needed, a prescription only if indicated, and follow-up. Any shortcut that skips these steps ceases to be medical treatment.
