Urgent online consultation: when to book and when to call 112
The difference between online urgent care (€35), hospital A&E and 112: symptoms suited to a video call and warning signs.
The urgent online consultation is for acute symptoms that need prompt assessment without being a life-threatening emergency: infections, moderate pain, fever, mild to moderate allergic reactions, medication questions and advice on whether to go to A&E.
At Kliniqa the typical response is within 5 minutes of payment (€35), 8am–10pm Lisbon time. The doctor can advise, prescribe if clinically indicated and issue a sick note when justified.
Call 112 or go to A&E if there is severe chest pain, serious breathing difficulty, stroke signs, loss of consciousness, heavy bleeding, major trauma or suspected overdose/poisoning.
You do not need SNS or a family doctor. Tourists, immigrants and residents without an active registration can use the same consultation. For children with acute symptoms, prefer urgent paediatrics.
Have to hand: symptoms and duration, temperature, allergies, current medication and photos of rashes if they exist.
Frequently asked questions
Does the urgent online consultation replace hospital?
No. It replaces unnecessary travel when the case is suitable for telemedicine. If life is at risk, call 112.
Can I get a prescription in the urgent consultation?
Yes, if clinically indicated. The electronic prescription has legal validity in Portuguese pharmacies.
What if it is a child?
Use urgent paediatric consultation online (€35), with specific triage and paediatric doses when a prescription is indicated.
